Phobias and Fears

A phobia can be described as an abnormal fear beyond voluntary control which leads to avoidance of that object or situation.

When you have a phobic reaction, you are likely to experience a paralysing fear, along with symptoms of panic. If you suffer from phobias you will recognise that your reaction to the object or situation is irrational but knowing this makes no difference and can actually
increase the feelings of stress you feel.

Phobias take different forms. There are those that relate to a specific thing or situation. For example, fear of flying, visiting the dentist, fear of spiders, motorway driving. Others are more pervasive like fear of being in social situations. For some this means that, although you do not avoid being with others, you find socialising uncomfortable because of
the anxiety it generates. You might find that even the thought of interacting with others is so distressing that you avoid contact with people as much as possible.

Hypnotherapy is helpful in treating phobias in just two or three sessions because it goes after the root cause of the problem which helped to create the phobia.
